First Reconciliation & Eucharist

Baptized (Catholic) children who are in Grade 2 or older may begin preparation to receive both the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion.

If your child has not been baptized (Catholic) and wishes to celebrate the sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Communion, please contact Cathryn Hall - chall@dol.ca

First Reconciliation (Confession)

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, each child meets Christ in a new and very personal way.

Preparing children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation is important for their sacramental journey. It is when children first begin to learn about God’s loving forgiveness, how to say they are sorry and how to ask for forgiveness.  Receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation is a time to grow and to remind us that God is love and that in His mercy He is always ready to forgive, no matter what the wrong.

First Eucharist (Communion)

In the Eucharist we partake of Christ's body and blood. The regular reception of this Sacrament strengthens our bond with Christ.

Baptized (Catholic) children begin preparation to receive the Eucharist (Holy Communion) for the first time, after having prepared for and celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). During the preparation for First Communion, children will learn that the gifts of bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and how to properly and respectfully receive the Body Christ during communion.
